Regional Peace and Order Council hold its 1st meeting for CY 2017

In a bid to respond to issues affecting peace and order in Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) held its first meeting for calendar year 2017 on Thursday - February 17, 2017 at the Bajau Hall, Office of the Regional Governor, ARMM Complex, Cotabato City.

The Regional Governor Muijiv S. Hataman presided the meeting along with the Vice Chair, Pro-ARMM Regional Director Reuben Theodore Sindac. RG Hataman said the RPOC meeting was aimed at synchronizing data of PNP and AFP to that of the Provincial Governors on any issue affecting the peace and order situation in the region. DILG-ARMM Regional Secretary Atty. Noor Hafizullah “Kirby” M. Abdullah - Regional Peace and Order Council Head Secretariat, did the roll call of the members of the council during the meeting.

Major concerns have been discussed in the meeting, including peace and order situation in the region, updates on Illegal Drugs, and ARMM Security Situation.  Resource persons from the Philippine National Police, PDEA ARMM and Western Mindanao presented the current peace and order situation in the region as per reports from their field units. PSupt. Jaime Mojica talk of PRO-ARMM presented on the crime statistics and criminality; PDEA ARMM Regional Director Bryan Babang talked on the updates on the war against illegal drugs; and while Maj. Gen. Carlito Galvez Jr., of the Western Mindanao Command, discussed insurgency situation in the region.

Highlighting the February 17 meeting was the approval of four (4) Council Resolutions namely 1.) Creation of Technical Working Group to study the engagement of the religious group in the security campaign of the region against terrorism; 2.) Mobilizing Darul Ifta by the Regional Government in coming up with a machinery/approach on how to engage religious leaders in the security campaign against terrorism; 3.) Requesting the PDEA National to augment personnel of PDEA ARMM; and 4.) Establishment  of PDEA Office to all provinces especially in Lanao del sur. 

The RPOC plays a vital role in maintaining peace and order in the region and country as a whole and keeps the members abreast of the prevailing conditions, issues, and concerns affecting the peace and order in every province of ARMM. Gov. Hataman took his oath of office as the RPOC chairperson before President Rodrigo Duterte in Malacañang in January this year.
